An analysis of the proper names translation in the four series tinker bell movie

This research focuses on the analysis of the proper names translation in the Tinker Bell serial movie: Enter the World of Fairies, The Lost Treasure, The Great Fairy Rescue, and Secret of The Wings. The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the kinds of proper names and the way they are translated into Bahasa Indonesia, (2) and the translation quality in terms of accuracy, and acceptability.
This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the single embedded-case study. To collect the data, purposive sampling was applied in this research. The data of this research are proper names in the four series of Tinker Bell movies and through questionnaire given to the three raters, and depth interview. The total data found in the movies are 144 data.
The 144 data of proper names are classified into 9 classifications. They are personal names (25 data or 17,36%), nicknames (7 data or 4,86%), relationship names (2 data or 1,38%), names of titles (20 data or 13,89%), title used without names (13 data or 9,02%), names of species (11 data or 7,64%), animal names (15 data or 10,41%), names of events (3 data or 2,08%), and other names includes names of fairy groups (18 data or 12,50%), names of fairy items and tools (13 data or 9,02%) and names of fairy place (17 data or 11,80%). The analysis on the translation techniques shows that there are 6 basic techniques of translation. They are copy (41 data or 28,47%), deletion (2 data or 1,40%), rendition (58 data or 40,28%), conventionality (6 data or 4,17%), communicative translation (2 data or 1,39%), and phonological replacement (1 datum or 0,69%). Moreover, the translator also applies the combination technique of those single techniques. Totally, there are 14 translation techniques found to translate proper names in the four series of Tinker Bell movies.
The analysis on the translation quality of the accuracy and the acceptability shows that the 144 data of proper names, 138 data (95,83%) are accurate, 4 data (2,78%) are less accurate, and 2 data (1,39%) are inaccurate. The technique that produces translations in high level of accuracy and acceptability is copy and rendition technique. Meanwhile, in the aspect of acceptability, there are 112 data (77,78%) acceptable, 31 data (21,53%) are less acceptable, and 1 datum (0,69%) is unacceptable. The data belongs to less acceptable data also because of the application of rendition technique and unpunctuality of the Indonesian language writing rules.
The researcher recommends that the translator of proper names in children literary works especially in form of children animation movies have to know the character and context of the situation in the movies and applied the best technique. In translating the proper names translator also should consider to the unfamiliar names, cultural terms, and language rules in target language both writing rules and the used of standard language.
