ABSTRACT

Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) is a plant from family Rubiaceae which until now has been widely used as an antibacterial and analgesic. Noni plant has begun intensively cultivated by farmers in Indonesia vegetatively, that is by cuttings. However, propagation by cuttings is not done optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the type and concentration of auxin on stem cuttings noni. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with nine of treatments. This study used three types of auxin which were IAA, NAA, and IBA, each with three levels of concentration; 25 ppm, 50 ppm and 75 ppm. There were three replications for each treatment, so there were 30 experimental units. The variables measured were the number of roots, root length, root fresh weight, root dry weight, while emerging shoots, shoot number, leaf number, and leaf length. The data were analyzed with statistical test Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was conducted with significance level of 5%. The results showed that variations in the type and concentration of auxin were not induce the formation and growth of roots on stem cuttings of noni. Application of variations and concentration of auxin give no significant effect on the time to appear shoots, but significantly affected the growth and development of shoots on the number of shoots and number of leaves parameters. The application of IAA has significant effect due to the leaf length of stem cuttings of noni.
