ABSTRAK The objectives of research are to: (1) describe the citizen’s political behavior in electing the chief of village as an attempt of realizing the good governance in Village Gedongjetis Sub district Tulung Regency Klaten, (2) find out the performance of the chief of village of Village Gedongjetis Sub district Tulung Regency Klaten whether it has or not met the obligation as the chief of village and fulfilled the principle of good governance. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with a single embedded case study. The data sources employed were informant, place and event, and document. The sampling technique employed was a purposive sampling. Techniques of collecting data employed were interview, observation, and document analysis. In this study, the data validity was derived using data triangulation technique, and the data analysis technique employed was an interactive analysis encompassing (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display and (4) conclusion drawing. The research procedure includes the following steps: (1) preparation, data collection, (3) data analysis and (4) research report writing. From the result of research, it can be concluded that: (1) citizen’s behavior in electing the chief of village in Village Gedongjetis Sub district Tulung Regency Klaten is different from that of other citizens in electing the chief of village. In order to realize the good governance, the citizens give wholeheartedly support to one candidate of village chief having the good personality not to the candidate giving much money during their recruiting. Such behavior is affected by many factors such as figure identification, political party identification and campaign issue. (2) The strong support from the citizens in the chief of village election has not been able to establish a village chief’ good performance; this is because the position and material can change someone. With both morale and material supports from the citizen, the citizens expect that the government system existing in village Gondangjetis can be better by the realization of promised work program, the realization of good governance principles, and the implementation of chief of village’s task and authority. The principles of good governance that have been undertaken include: participation, consensus orientation, and responsiveness; while the principles that have not been undertaken by the village Gedongjetis’s chief of village include: law enforcement, transparency, justice, effectiveness, accountability, and strategic vision. Thus, the citizens’ expectation to change the government system into the good governance has not been realized.
