The objective of this study is to investigate the difficulties that students face and the strategies they use in the process of writing a thesis at the end of their study. The researcher uses narrative inquiry as a method in this research, which is based on the experiences felt by three students of the English Education Department as participants. Therefore, interviews with the participants are used in the data analysis. To analyze the data, the researcher used a data analysis technique proposed by Barkhuizen, Benson, and Chik (2014). The steps were repeated reading of data, coding, categorizing data extract, and reorganizing under thematic headings. The results showed that students face some difficulties in writing a thesis, such as a difficulty focusing on the topic, making good research questions, lack of theoretical knowledge, lack of ability to synthesize literature, and lack of critical thinking in the process of writing. Therefore, it's important for the institution to strengthen teaching about Academic Writing, so that the students understand more about Academic Writing and they will have fewer struggles and difficulties in achieving the requirements of higher education especially writing a thesis as a requirement to get a bachelor degree. To cope with the difficulties in writing a thesis, the students do some strategies like negotiating with their supervisor and interacting with peers. The critical comments and suggestions they got from their supervisors and peers helped them narrow down their research topics, design feasible research plans, develop their theoretical knowledge, and eventually complete the thesis. Those strategies have given the reasons for them to finish their study.
