Abstrak : The writer did an apprentice to compose this final project in MTs Muhammadiyah Blimbing. Her purpose was the report the technique used in Teaching speaking in MTs Muhammadiyah Blimbing, because the technique is needed in teaching speaking. This final project describes the technique used in teaching speaking, the process of teaching speaking and the difficulties faced by the teachers in teaching speaking activities. In collecting the data, the writer did an observation and interview in the school of MTs Muhammadiyah Blimbing. She observed the way the teacher conducted the class first then in the second week, the writer was positioned as the teacher in three classes that are A, B, and C in the school from February 14th 2007 to March 28th 2007. During her apprentice as a teacher, the writer also interviewed some sides the school : head master, curriculum division and two English teachers. The writer in her job training found the method used in the teaching speaking, the activities done in the class, the problem faced by the participants both teachers and students, the techniques used in teaching speaking. The methods used in teaching speaking activities are direct method, communicative approach, and grammar-translation and Oral-aural approach. But in teaching speaking activities the writer used Direct Method more dominant than others method. In the class activities, the teacher classified it in some steps. The steps started from the brain storming, explanation and the test. The brain storming itself consists of greeting, reviewing and warming up. The technique used in teaching speaking activities is conversation games, discussion (problem-solving) and drama. The teacher also applied the Direct Method in teaching speaking that is Question and answer exercise, conversation practice and dictation. During the activity in the class, the writer found some problems. The problems related to the students were motivation, student’s interest and the characteristic. The problems related to the school were lack of facilities and reference. The teacher also did several efforts to improve student proficiency in learning English they are; 1) She made lesson plan to prepare the material and to manage the time effectively before taught. 2) She gave students time to ask all things they did not understand 3) She gave assignments 4) She tried several ways within simulating speaking act 5) Maximizing the facilities available
