Abstrak : 2007. This final project report was written based on the job training which was done by the writer from 13th February 2007 to the end of March 2007 at MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar. The writer took the 4th Grade Class as the subject to be observed, because in this age, the students were in the transition period between adulthood and childhood. The purposes of this final project are to describe the English teaching and learning activities in MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar, the problems which were faced by the students and the teacher when the activities were run and also to present the solution for those problems. The writer usually prepared a lesson plan before the teaching and learning activities began. In teaching English to the fourth grade class, the writer focused on teaching English vocabulary and grammar. The writer used two methods, Grammar Translation Method and The Direct Method. In teaching English process, the writer used some procedures. The procedures were warming up (greeting and reviewing the last material), presentation (introducing the new material and explaining the material), practice (listening, speaking, reading and writing activities), evaluation and ending the lesson. Besides, there were also games and sang a song to attract the student’s motivation. It was also useful to make them more familiar to English. The materials were divided into four skills Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. During the English teaching and learning process, there were some problems faced by both the teacher and the students. The problems were inappropriate material of the student’s book to the curriculum, the student’s characteristics, the student’s low motivation, the student’s ability in learning vocabulary and grammar, and the limited time allocation of English lesson. The writer also presents some solutions in handling the problems. They were using another book of MI English teacher’s handbooks, giving games, asking the students sang a song & giving attention for all of the students, using drilling techniques and giving many exercises and using the time as maximum as possible. The writer also gave suggestion to MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar, the English teacher of MI Muhammadiyah Karanganyar and the English Diploma Program.
