× ABSTRAK 2007. In language teaching, vocabulary is very important for learners. It is one of the main keys in learning foreign language. There are two objectives stated in this final project, they are: the method used in teaching vocabulary and the difficulties faced by teacher in teaching vocabulary. This final project discusses the problem in teaching vocabulary. The method used in teaching vocabulary are direct method and grammar translation method. The teacher uses the student’s mother tongue so that they can understand simple words in English and know the meaning of each new word. The application of this is based on the materials available on the text book. In doing “activities” and “exercises”, the teacher asks the students to read, to write, to listen, and also to make the sentence, so that they really understand about what they are learning. Further, this final project also examines the difficulties faced by teachers in teaching vocabulary. The first problem is the students’ difficulties in memorizing the new word. The second problem is the students’ difficulties in pronouncing the words. The third problem is students’ motivation. They just give little attention in the class. The writer tries to give solution to the problems faced by teachers in teaching vocabulary. It is suggested to provide the books and facilities supporting the teaching and learning activity, making variety of ways and creating good relationship between teacher and students. Those are the ways to reach the target teaching and learning process.
