Abstrak : ABSTRAKSI The research is aimed at finding out: 1) difference of effect between the implementation of cooperative learning of Students Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) and that of Jigsaw on the competence fufillment in Social Science, 2) difference of effect between the students whose achievement motivation is high and those whose achievement motivation is low on the competence fulfillment in Social Science, and 3) interaction of effect between the learning model implementation and the achievement motivation on the competence fulfillment in Social Science. This research is a quantitative one. It used an experimental approach with the factorial design of 2 x 2 and its data were displayed analytically and descriptively. Population of the research was 720 students (18 classes: class VII, 6 classes; Class VIII, 6 classes; and Class IX, 6 classes) of State Junior Secondary School 3 of Mojolaban, Sukoharjo. Samples of the research were those in Class VIII in the academic year of 2007/2008, consisting of 2 classes. One class consisting of 40 students was used for an experimental class, and the other class consisting of 40 students was used for a control class. The data of the research were gathered by using questionnaire and test. The data then were analyzed by using a two-way analysis of variants (ANOVA). Prior to the analysis, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire and test were tested. The former was tested by using the Product Moment correlation and the latter was tested by using Alpha Cronbach and KR 20. The results of the hypothesis test show that: (1) There is a difference of effect between the implementation of cooperative learning of STAD and that of Jigsaw on the competence fulfillment in Social Science. The former results in a better learning competence fulfillment in Social Science than the latter. It can be concluded,therefore, that there is an average difference of the learning competence fulfillment in Social Science between the implementation of cooperative learning of STAD and that of Jigsaw. The result of the test on the learning competence fulfillment in Social Science shows that students instructed with STAD has better learning competence fulfillment than those instructed with Jigsaw as indicated by the value of Fcount = 10.850 > Ftable= 3.11 at the significance level of α=0.05. 2) There is a difference of effect between the students whose achievement motivation is high and those whose achievement motivation is low on the competence fulfillment in Social Science. It can be concluded,therefore, that there is an average difference between the high achievement motivation and low achievement motivation. The scores of the students whose achievement motivation is high is better than those whose achievement motivation is low as indicated by the value of Fcount = 74.523 > Ftabel = 3.11 at the significance level of α=0.05. 3) There is an interaction of effect between the learning model implementation and the achievement motivation on the competence fulfillment in Social Science as indicated by the result of the test in which Fcount= 20.746 is greater than Ftable= 3.11. Because the value of Fcount is greater than that of Ftable, the zero hypothesis is not verified, demonstrating that there is an interaction of effect between the learning model implementation and the achievement motivation on the competence fulfillment in Social Science. Thus, the findings of the research can convincingly strengthen the theories of the cooperative learning particularly by the use of STAD and theories of achievement motivation. By both implementing the cooperative learning of STAD and the considering the achievement motivation, the teachers are expected: 1) to have skills in implementing the learning model as an attempt to improve the learning quality of the students, 2) to have skills in nurturing the students’ achievement motivation growth, and 3) to encourage the students to think creatively, to establish sound learning cooperation, and to build their knowledge actively.
