This study aims to analyze the collapse of Renata’s subjectivity, the main character in the Indonesian film Sehidup Semati (2024), which leads to psychosis. This study employs an interpretative qualitative textual analysis to examine narrative elements, dialogues, and character actions through Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory, particularly the concepts of subjectivity and the adaptation of Saussurean semiotics. The findings reveal that prolonged trauma, domestic violence, and patriarchal religious indoctrination cause the collapse of Renata’s subjectivity, resulting in psychosis manifested through hallucinations, identity fragmentation, and murderous acts. Consequently, Renata transforms from passive victimization into someone employing defensive coping mechanisms, remaining a victim trapped within her own traumatic reality. This study concludes that, from a Lacanian psychoanalytic lens, Sehidup Semati (2024) portrays psychosis not merely as an individual psychological disorder but as the result of a structural collapse of subjectivity, demonstrating how traumatic experiences that cannot be symbolically integrated ultimately shatter the subject’s psychic stability.
