Jessica Oktantia Putri. 2026. Subtitling Tourism Promotion Video at the Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office of Karanganyar Regency. English Diploma Program, Vocational School. Universitas Sebelas Maret. This internship report describes the subtitling process of a tourism promotion video completed during an internship at the Tourism Office of Karanganyar Regency. The internship was conducted to apply translation knowledge in a professional environment while supporting the promotion of local tourism through English subtitles. The main project involved translating the Sakura Hills promotional video from Indonesian into English and producing subtitles that could be easily understood by international audiences. The subtitling process consisted of transcription, translation, subtitle synchronization, caption editing, final review, and subtitle export using Subtitle Edit. The translation process followed the stages proposed by Nida and Taber, namely analysis, transfer, and restructuring. During the analysis stage, cultural terms and informal expressions were identified and interpreted based on their context before being translated. In the transfer stage, appropriate English equivalents were selected by considering meaning, naturalness, and the purpose of the promotional video. The restructuring stage focused on reviewing the translation to ensure that the subtitles were natural, readable, and suitable for the target audience. The main challenges encountered during the project included translating cultural terms such as rumah relaksasi, mini onsen, and kimono, as well as informal expressions such as ramah di kantong. These challenges were addressed by applying appropriate translation procedures while preserving the original meaning and cultural references. In addition, technical aspects of subtitling, including subtitle synchronization, line division, duration adjustment, and readability, were carefully revised to produce clear and effective subtitles. Overall, the internship enhanced practical skills in translation and audiovisual translation while demonstrating that well-prepared English subtitles can support tourism promotion by making promotional videos more accessible and understandable for international audiences.
