ABSTRACT Andika Dian Prahasta, 2026. Translating Culture-Related Terms in a Solo Tourism Information Text at the Department of Culture and Tourism Surakarta. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret. This report is based on my experience during the Internship Program (Kegiatan Magang Mahasiswa/KMM) at the Department of Culture and Tourism of Surakarta City (Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Kota Surakarta) for eight weeks, from January 12 to March 6, 2026. The main activity of this internship was translating a tourism information text entitled “Solo, Kota yang Selalu Punya Alasan untuk Dikunjungi” from Indonesian into English. The text explores the cultural, tourism, and creative economy potential of the city of Surakarta and contains several Javanese culture-related terms that have no equivalence in English. In translating the tourism information text, I applied three translation stages, including analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. In the analysis stage, I read the text carefully to identify the message, characteristics, purpose, and target readers. In the transferring stage, I conveying the message from the source text to the target text. Furthermore, in the restructuring stage, I reviewed and revised the translated text to produce a clear and natural translation in the target language. When performing the translation, the most dominant challenge I faced was translating Javanese culture related terms. To address this challenge, I applied several techniques, including adaptation, pure borrowing, established equivalent, and explicitation. I also used some references from KBBI, Cambridge Dictionary, Sederet.com, and ProZ.com. In addition to the main translation task, I carried out additional activities, including designing Instagram feed content, creating a digital invitation for the Public Consultation Forum, and editing the documentation video. This internship provided valuable professional experience and allowed me to apply my academic knowledge, particularly in the fields of translation studies and English for Advertising, to a real world work environment.
