This report explains my internship activities that were conducted at Rumah Budaya
Kratonan (RBK) for two months, from January 27th to March 31st, 2026. The
internship program aimed to provide me with practical experience in the
professional workplace and to fulfill one of the requirements for obtaining an Ahli
Madya degree. The activities I carried out during the internship period included
both main activities and additional activities. The main activities during the
internship were translating the history book Sekilas Sejarah Kraton Surakarta and
23 museum labels in the RBK’s gallery. This translation project is useful for helping
foreign visitors of RBK become more familiar with the culture and history of
Surakarta. I followed the translation process proposed by Nida and Taber (1969)
while translating the texts, namely analysis, transfer, and restructuring. The
difficulties I faced during the translation process included translating Javanese
honorific titles, Javanese concepts, and Javanese customs. In addition, challenges
were found in translating difficult historical terms in the gallery that had to be
adjusted for the target audience. All of these challenges were solved through
research of reliable references and by applying appropriate translation techniques,
such as pure borrowing, amplification, and the established equivalent, as outlined
by Molina and Albir (2002). Through this internship, I gained valuable experience
and opportunities to practice translation in a real project, which allowed me to
improve my translation skills and develop a professional work ethic.
