This internship report is written based on my experience during the Student Internship Program (KMM) at the Surakarta City Culture and Tourism Office, located at Jl.  Slamet Riyadi, No.275, Sriwedari, Laweyan, Surakarta City, Central Java 57141. The internship was carried out for approximately two months, from January 12 to March 6, 2026. During the internship, my main activities were covering cultural events, writing tourism and cultural news articles, translating news articles from Indonesian to English, and assisting with the creation of tourism promotional content. One of the outputs discussed in this report is a news titled Rangkaian Grebeg Sudiro 2026, Harmoni Warisan Budaya di Jantung Kota Solo (Grebeg Sudiro 2026 Series, Cultural Heritage Harmony in the Heart of Solo). This article was selected because it contains various Javanese cultural terms that have no direct equivalents in English, thus posing challenges in the translation process. In translating this news article, I employed a three-stage translation process consisting of analysis, transfer, and restructuring. Additionally, translation techniques such as borrowing, amplification, and established equivalents were used to address the translation challenges encountered. Translating cultural terms requires not only an understanding of the language but also an understanding of the cultural context so that the meaning contained in the source language can be preserved and understood by readers of the target language. Some of the cultural terms discussed in this report include Umbul Mantram, kirab gunungan, sedekah bumi, and suasana khidmat. In addition to translation activities, I was involved in creating promotional content for Among Tamu’s services and designing social media posts to celebrate Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr using the Canva app. Through these various activities, I gained experience and skills in news writing, translation, research, communication, time management, teamwork, and digital content creation. Overall, the KMM program provided valuable real-world experience and helped me applying the knowledge I gained during my studies to real cases, particularly in the fields of translation, tourism communication, and cultural promotion.
