Fajar Rian Kusuma, 2026. Translating
idioms in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Novel by Mark Twain at Anak Hebat
Indonesia. English Diploma Program. Vocational School. Universitas Sebelas
Maret.
This internship report is written to
describe the activities during my internship program at Anak Hebat Indonesia.
This company is located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and was established
in November 2016. This internship program lasted for two months starting from
January 12 to March 7, 2026. During the internship program, I was assigned to
translate The Adventures of Tom Sawyer novel written by Mark Twain and published
in 1876. But, in this internship report, I am only discussing the translation
of idioms in the novel. To translating the idioms, I searched the meaning and
context in an online dictionary and applied the strategies of translating
idioms stated by Mona Baker (1992), namely using an idiom with a similar form,
using an idiom with a similar meaning but a different form, paraphrasing, and
omitting the idiom. In the translation process, I applied the theory of
translation by Nida & Taber (1969), which divides the translation process
into three stages, namely analysis, transfer, and restructuring. After
translating the novel, I also took on two additional assignments, including
checking for errors in the KUHAP (Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Acara Pidana)
book that was published by Anak Hebat Indonesia and reviewing the novels that
were translated by my internship fellows. The novels were The Life and
Adventures of Robinson Crusoe translated by Nadiya Putri Pinaringaning
Gusti, The Shining Gateway translated by Kirana Atika Suri, and Byways
of Blessedness translated by Kayis Susilo Putri. To complete these three
assignments effectively, I used several tools such as KBBI (Kamus Besar
Bahasa Indonesia), the fifth edition of Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia yang
Disempurnakan (EYD) Cambridge Dictionary, and digital platforms like Google
and Google Docs.
