TRANSLATING AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL BOOK AT SANGIRAN EARLY MAN SITE

Translating an Archaeological Book at Sangiran Early Man Site. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret. This internship report was written based on the writer’s experience during the internship at Sangiran Museum for two months, from January 13 to March 06, 2026. This report aims to describe all activities and difficulties encountered by the writer during the internship. The writer's main activity was translating a book titled Ekskavasi: Cara Arkeolog untuk Mendapatkan Data Tinggalan dari Masa Silam di Situs Sangiran. During the translation process, the writer encountered difficulties in translating the archaeological terms. To resolve this problem, the writer searched for parallel text from articles and websites on the Internet. The writer also conducted a discussion with her internship supervisor to consult on the archaeological terms, and used online dictionaries, such as Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), Cambridge Dictionary and Merriam Webster Dictionary. Nida & Taber’s translation process was employed during the translation process, which consists of analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. As well as the translation techniques by Molina and Albir were also employed, such as borrowing, established equivalent, addition, reduction, literal translation. Meanwhile, the additional activities were translating the description of museum collections, assisting in museum guiding activities, and creating subtitles for a film entitled Dendang Gambus di Tanah Purba. Through this internship, I gained deeper knowledge of archaeological terminology, sharpened my translation precision, and developed soft skills such as communication, public speaking, and workplace adaptability.
