Lion dance (Barongsai) art is one of the Chinese cultural heritages that has undergone a long history of discrimination in Indonesia, particularly following Presidential Instruction No. 14 of 1967 up to the May 1998 riots, during which the Chinese ethnic community became a target of violence. Amid this history, the Barongsai Tripusaka Surakarta community emerged as a space for intercultural communication that brought the Javanese and Chinese ethnic groups together in a process of post-conflict reconciliation and cultural assimilation. This final report examines the role of the scriptwriter in producing the expository documentary film "Barongsai Tripusaka; Menari di Atas Perbedaan" ("Barongsai Tripusaka; Dancing Above Differences"), which portrays intercultural communication practices within the Barongsai Tripusaka community as a symbol of pluralism and social harmony in the city of Surakarta. The purpose of this report is to identify the scriptwriter's role across the three stages of documentary film production: preproduction, production, and post-production. The methods used include literature review, observation, and interviews with relevant sources, including community members and academics. The findings show that the scriptwriter plays a crucial role at every production stage: during pre-production, the scriptwriter acts as a researcher who develops the premise, logline, film statement, and treatment; during production, the scriptwriter serves as an interviewer responsible for maintaining narrative continuity; and during post-production, the scriptwriter supervises the editing process to ensure consistency with the script. It can be concluded that the scriptwriter serves as the bridge between the production team and the audience, conveying messages of pluralism and tolerance through a coherent and accessible documentary narrative.
