June 2026.This study aims to explain the appropriate and inappropriate use of Javaneseaffixes, the factors that influence affix use, and learning strategies that can beimplemented to improve students' skills in using Javanese affixes in narrativecompositions of grade VII students of SMP NEGERI 1 Sukoharjo. This study usesa descriptive qualitative method with a case study design. The data sources in thisstudy are narrative compositions of grade VII students, Javanese languageteachers, and supporting documents. Data were collected through documentanalysis, interviews, and observation techniques. Data validity was checked usingsource triangulation and technical triangulation. Data were analyzed using aninteractive analysis model that includes data reduction, data presentation, andconclusion drawing. This study shows that the use of Javanese affixes in students'narrative compositions reflects varying levels of morphological mastery. Studentshave been able to use various types of affixes in the process of forming derivedwords, but some affixes are still used that do not conform to Javanesemorphological rules. Therefore, strengthening affixation material and writingpractice need to be given greater attention in Javanese language learning so thatstudents' use of affixes becomes more accurate and consistent.Keywords: Affixation, narrative composition, Javanese morphology, affix use,morphological mastery.
