This study explores: 1) pre-service EFL teachers’ experiences in designing lesson plans, and 2) investigates the implementation of the lesson plan by preservice EFL teachers during their teaching practicum. This study employed a descriptive qualitative study. The data collection techniques were observations, interviews, and document analysis, with the pre-service EFL teacher in Surakarta as the participants. The finding of this study indicates: 1) pre-service EFL teachers have not been able to design ideal lesson plans in accordance with existing standards, considering that they still do not meet the minimum aspects of lesson planning. 2) the lesson plan implementation showed unsatisfactory results since some activities were not applied during the teaching and learning process, and the activity steps applied in the teaching process in a classroom were not aligned with the guidance steps should be followed based on existing standards of the lesson plan. As a result, this study can be used as a consideration for PST to overcome the same possible problems in designing and implementing a lesson plan, so they can conduct the teaching and learning process more organized.
