This research aims to identify the type of names of address in A Game of Thrones novel, analyze the strategies applied on the names of address’ translations, and assess the translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.
The data of this research were analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. The source of data consists of documents and informants. They were taken purposively from A Game of Thrones novel, while the informants were two raters who validated the data and assessed the quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability, and three readers of A Game of Thrones novel who assessed the quality in terms of readability. Moreover, the researcher applied content analysis and Focus Group Discussion in collecting the data.
The research findings show that the strategies are all functional as long as they fit the context of the names of address. This study also proves that translators need adequate knowledge in translating names of address so the meaning of the names can be successfully delivered and understood by the target readers. Based on the average score of accuracy, acceptability, and readability, the final score of the Translation Quality Analysis on the names of address’s translations found in A Game of Thrones novel is 2,89 out of 3. The score proves that the translator had succeeded in translating the names of address from the source language to the target language.
