The objectives of the present study are 1) to examine translation techniques used to translate Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s quick chat from English into Indonesia and 2) to assess its translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.

The study applied the descriptive-qualitative paradigm with single embedded case study design. Data for the study were collected from the documents (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s quick chat and its translated version in Bahasa Indonesia) and informants/raters through content analysis and FGD (Focus Group Discussion) and were selected with purposes sampling technique. The data were analyzed using Spradley’s data analyses: domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis and cultural theme analysis.

The findings of the study show that 131 quick chat data identified are rendered with various translation techniques. These include established equivalent (202 data or 67.10 %), pure borrowing (49 data or 16.27 %), discursive creation (15 data or 4.98 %), modulation (14 data or 4.65 %), explicitation (7 data or 2.32 %), paraphrase (5 data or 1.66 %), implicitation (3 data or 0.99%), reduction (3 data or 0.99%), literal translation (1 datum or 0.33 %), variant borrowing (1 datum or 0.33 %) and addition (1 datum or 0.33 %). The findings of the study also indicate that the average score of the translation quality is 2.90, where the accuracy score is 2.82, the acceptability score is 2.99, and the readability score is 2.98.

This study concludes that the translator is able to apply translation techniques contextually and functionally, resulting in the production of a quality translation.
