This internship report was written based on my internship program held at Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah, which is located at Jalan Diponegoro Nomor 250, Genuk Barat, Genuk, Ungaran Barat, Semarang, Central Java, 5051 and took place on January 16th, 2023 to March 10th, 2023. This internship report goals to described the internship activities at Balai Bahasa Provinsi Jawa Tengah, particularly the translation process of fiction short stories. During the internship, I translated fiction short story by O. Henry entitled Last Leaf. The problems that came across when translating short stories were long sentences, unfamiliar terms, and different cultures. I found a lot of sentences that described the setting of the story, such as time setting, place setting, and atmosphere setting which I had to describe clearly, so the readers could imagine how the setting looked like. Nida and Taber’s translation process were implemented in translating the project. The strategies that I used to solve the problems were: dividing long sentences into two or more sentences, using conjunction, or suming up the main points of the sentences. I also searched more references to translate unusual terms and cultures. Furthermore, I also got some assigments where I could apply my experiences and knowledges from college.
