This final report is written in accordance with the Student Internship program that I did at Museum Keris Nusantara. The program lasted for two months, from February 7 to April 2, 2023. During the internship, I was engaged in various activities. The main activities were creating a bilingual catalog featuring heirlooms from Sulawesi and translating captions for kris and spears displayed at Museum Keris Nusantara. In addition to these main activities, I recorded a voice-over for an educational video about kris. Moreover, I learned about museum management, kris preservation from corrosion, and Javanese zodiac signs at Museum Radya Pustaka. While translating the catalog and captions, I applied the translation process proposed by Nida and Taber (1982), which involves analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. I also utilized the translation techniques introduced by Molina and Albir (2002). During the translation process, I encountered challenges related to Javanese terminology, both familiar and unfamiliar to the general audience. Similarly, translating emotive vocabulary posed difficulties as Indonesian has limited emotive expressions compared to English. To overcome these challenges, I conducted research, consulted with the museum conservators, and used online dictionaries to understand specific terms. The internship program not only enhanced my translation skills but also deepened my knowledge of Javanese culture, the philosophy of kris, and its preservation techniques.
