This study aimed to explore the description of character education values represented in the EFL textbook English for Nusantara for Grade VII Junior High School endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Indonesia. In conducting this study, the researcher employed a qualitative content analysis as the research design. This study focused on examining character education values representation in three chapters of the textbook. The researcher used eighteen aspects of moral values from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Data analysis techniques were carried out in four stages, starting from 1) decontextualisation, 2) contextualization, 3) categorization, and 4) compilation. The findings show that the visual and written texts in the textbook cover almost all of the recommended character education values in Indonesia. Through the three chapters in this book, fifteen out of eighteen values have been represented explicitly and implicitly, except for values of hard work, democracy, and nationalism. However, there are inequalities of representation; some values occured very frequently, while some occured only rarely. The image of character education values portrayed by the EFL textbook is only an imagined good citizen; the implications for the students’ thinking and acting need to be the subject of further study.
