A Comparative Examination of The Readability of The Indonesian-Translated In-Game Text-Assets in The Online Mobile Game

Supervisor: Dr.Dyah Ayu Nila Khrisna, S.S., M.Hum.This research focuses on analyzing the localization of the in-game text assets in a game entitled Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. This study aims to find out (1) the in-game text assets used on the game (2) the translation technique used by the translator to translate the in-game text assets, and (3) the readability of the translation. 
This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. The data were obtained by using content analysis and In-depth interview. In content analysis, the researcher collected the data by collecting in-game text assets found in the game. There are 11 data in this research. Questionnaires were distributed to six gamers in the form of content analysis and In-depth interview.
The research findings show that there are 11 in-game text assets found in the game. The in-game text assets terms in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game are Shop that consists of 13 sub menus, Events that consists of 28 sub menus, Starlight that consists of 4 sub menus, Live that consists of 5 sub menus, Esports that consists of 3 sub menus, Preparation that consists of 9 sub menus, Heroes that consists of 7 sub menus, Leaderboards that consists of 7 sub menus, Achievements that consists of 7 sub menus, Contest that consists of 3 sub menus, and Inventory that consists of 3 sub menus. The translation techniques used are Established Equivalent, Pure Borrowing, Naturalized Borrowing, Amplification, Compensation, Linguistic Compression, Reduction, Calque, and Duplet Technique. The result shows the translation techniques applied by the translator does affect the readability on the TT. Pure Borrowing is mainly used to translate from the ST to the TT. Moreover, the use of foreign language, unfamiliar terms, abbreviated word and lack of further explanation mainly takes part for the readability among Novice and Experienced gamers. The experience of playing games also become the cause in understanding the features which distinct these two types of gamers. Overall, the readability of the translation is still less readable.
