This study aims to discover and explain: (1) the types of hedging devices used by Wednesday, (2) the functions of hedging devices used by Wednesday, and (3) the distribution of hedging devices in story stages. This research is categorized as qualitative descriptive research with a socio-pragmatics approach. The primary data of this study is the utterances produced by Wednesday in the Wednesday series’ story stages. A content analysis based on a socio-pragmatics approach is used for the data collection. The sampling technique of this study is purposive sampling. In the data validity, this study applies data source triangulation in the form of a transcript of the Wednesday series. According to the findings, the results of this study are: (1) all hedging types are used by Wednesday and modal auxiliary verbs (MA) are her dominant types of hedging, (2) all hedging functions are used by Wednesday and expressing confidence (EC) is commonly used by Wednesday, (3) the distribution of hedging devices in story stages are dynamic and influenced by Wednesday’s social background and characterization.
