ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS IN PERSUASION MOVIE

           This research is designed to classify the subclassifications of directive speech act found in Persuasion Netflix Movie, identify the translation techniques used by the translator in translating the subclassifications of directive speech acts, and analyze the translation quality of directive speech act subclassifications in terms of accuracy and acceptability.

            This research used the descriptive qualitative research method since the data of the research were analyzed descriptively in forms of words. Its data consisted of linguistic and translation data. The former included directive speech acts taken from the Netflix movie, and the latter comprised translation techniques and translation quality of directive speech act subclassifications. Moreover, the data were collected through content analysis and FGD. The sources were Persuasion Netflix movie and informants who were the raters of this research.

            The result of the research shows that there are eight subclassifications of directive speech acts out of 142 data, namely: Question, Ask, Command, Order, Invite, Request, Advise, and Beg. Furthermore, there are 11 translation techniques applied by the translator, namely: Established Equivalent, Reduction, Variation, Linguistic Compression, Pure Borrowing, Literal Translation, Explicitation, Modulation, Compensation, Generalization, and Particularization. Moreover, the overall band score of the translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability is 2.92. Individually, they are 2.87 and 2.98 respectively. The final score indicates that the translator successfully translated the directive speech acts into the target language.
