The objectives of this research are 1) to analyse the characteristics ofintimate language, 2) identify the translation techniques used by the translator intranslating the intimate language, and 3) to evaluate the translation quality of theintimate language in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This research is categorised as descriptive qualitative research since the data ofthe research are in the form of words. Its data are linguistic data and translationdata. Linguistic data refers to intimate expressions while the translation data aretranslation techniques and translation quality. The data were gathered from thedocument and informants/raters through document or content analysis and FocusGroup Discussion (FGD). This research found two characteristics of intimate language, namelyAddressee (127 data) and Extraction (5 data). Moreover, there are four translationtechniques applied by the translator, namely Pure Borrowing, EstablishedEquivalent, Explicitation, and Deletion. Pure Borrowing is the most frequently usedtechnique, followed by Established Equivalent. The overall quality is 2.84, meaningthat the translator has successfully translated the intimate language into the targetlanguage. Furthermore, pure borrowing techniques contributes to the translationquality. This is because the pure borrowing techniques is effective since it borrowsthe name of the character that already appear in the source language. On the otherhand, deletion gives negative impact to the overall quality due to the fact that somemessages in the ST are not transferred completely in the message are lost in thetranslation and some messages are changed in the translation. The translation is alsocategorized as unacceptable due to the fact that some translations have beentransferred into non-intimate language in the target language. The translation alsocategorized as low readable due to the fact that it is hardly to understand.
