The objective of the study is (1) to describe the writing strategies employed by high and low achievers in Paragraph Writing Class; and (2) to find out the differences between the writing strategies employed by high and low achievers. The object of the study is six students of the Paragraph Writing Class of English Education Department.
The study employed a qualitative approach with the case study as a method. The questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data. The questionnaire and interview used in this research are developed from Petri? & Czárl's (2003) and Louise Gordon’s (2008) writing strategies taxonomy.
The study shows that the majority of existing writing strategies were used by students. Twenty-five of the twenty-seven writing strategies investigated in this study were used by them. Moreover, high-achieving students use writing strategies more frequently than those who are low-achievers in all three stages of writing. In addition, the study shows that writing strategies are most often used at the during- writing stage. Moreover, it is expected that this study will be able to serve as a consideration for future researchers interested in the same topic.
