The Translation Analysis of Culinary Terms Found in The Movie Entitled Burnt

This research focuses on the analysis of translation technique and translation quality in term of readability of culinary terms found in the movie entitled Burnt. The objectives of this research are to find out the translation techniques applied by the translator in translating culinary terms in the movie entitled Burnt, and to identify the readability of the Indonesian translation of culinary terms found in the movie entitled Burnt.

This research used a descriptive qualitative method with sampling technique. The primary data of this research includes the culinary terms found in the movie entitled Burnt and its subtitle. The subtitle found on the internet. The secondary data collected through questionnaire.

The final result of this research shows that there are 106 data of culinary terms found in the movie entitled Burnt. All of the data in this research are in the form of words or phrases. There are 9 single translation techniques, and 9 multiple techniques in translating culinary terms in the movie entitled Burnt, they are: 1) established equivalent (36.79%); 2) pure borrowing (29.25%); 3) reduction (10.38%); 4) naturalized borrowing (1.89%); 5) amplification (1.89%); 6) discursive creation (1.89%); 7) modulation (0.94%); 8) adaptation (0.94%); 9) generalization (0.94%); 10) established equivalent + amplification (5.66%); 11) established equivalent + reduction (1.89%); 12) established equivalent + pure borrowing (1.89%); 13) amplification + adaptation (0.94%); 14) reduction + literal translation (0.94%); 15) established equivalent + particularization (0.94%); 16) literal translation + discursive creation + reduction (0.94%); 17) established equivalent + pure borrowing + calque (0.94%); 18) pure borrowing + established equivalent + literal translation (0.94%). The result also shows that the total average score of the translation quality in term of readability is 2.51. It means the readability of the subtitle is quite good.
