This research aimed at 1) describing the student’s perception of the implementation of online learning; 2) analyzing new learning insights experienced by the students through the implementation of online learning related to speaking competence; 3) identifying the challenges of the adoption of the implementation of online learning.
This study was conducted as a case study involving English education students at a private university in Central Java, Indonesia. The participants were purposefully selected to ensure the relevance of the study's objectives. The data were collected through observation and interviews to provide comprehensive and in-depth insights into the participants' attitudes and practices.
After data analysis, the findings showed that (1) the students had a good perception of online learning and improved their speaking competence through online learning; (2) the students also got new learning insights experienced during online learning, such as motivation and social interactions; (3) in contrast, students faced the challenges of adopting online learning because of network connectivity, addiction to technology, and physical presence. Considering the results mentioned, this study recommends that future researchers discover more about this phenomenon with a more significant population and other contexts to obtain more comprehensive findings.
