This research is conducted to investigate how the Indonesian news media responded to the victory of Joe Biden against Donald Trump in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election in order to identify the underlying effect on how Indonesians perceive and cover the United States. This research used a descriptive qualitative research design to collect and analyze the data. The primary data were taken from an article of the Jakarta Post. This study uses Teun A. Van Dijk's method of Critical Discourse Analysis to analyze the articles before discussing the results.  The research found that 1) Indonesia rejoices upon Joe Biden’s victory and wishes to improve its relations with the US from servility to equality, while wanting to keep its Bebas Aktif principles upheld, 2) Indonesia considers itself as inferior to the US, and absorbed the “knowledge” set up by the US hegemony, but seeks recogition, and wants to use the “knowledge” and hegemony set up by the US to act upon its own interest 3) The United States, despite the rise of China and the disaster of Donald Trump's Presidency, are still thought of as the superpower in which Indonesia still looks up to in order to solve its own problems. Moreover, the victory of Joe Biden can be interpreted as the U.S.' reassertion of its hegemonic power.
