Pre-service Teachers' Perception of Using Powtoon in Microteaching Course Focusing on Technology Integration Self-Efficacy (TISE)

The objectives of this research are: (1) examine how pre-service teachers' perception of using Powtoon affects their technology integration self-efficacy; (2) examine the problems faced by pre-service teachers in implementing Powtoon; (3) investigate the solutions found by pre-service teachers in implementing Powtoon. The research was conducted at one university in Surakarta. The subjects of the research were five pre-service English teachers who completed Microteaching course with Powtoon. This research adapted the biographical narrative inquiry method and gathered the data through questionnaires, narrative frames, interviews, and relevant artefacts. The research investigated pre-service teachers’ TISE perception of using Powtoon in the Microteaching course. The participants used Powtoon to develop teaching materials. The findings about pre-service teachers’ perceptions showed that 1) they had a various perception of Powtoon and their TISE, including their absorption, understanding, and evaluation; 2) they faced problems in implementing Powtoon, including problems related to negative feedback and technological complexity; 3) in the process, they found several solutions to overcome their problems: highlighting the importance of constructive feedback and peer support. Therefore, pre-service teachers are expected to be aware of their TISE and the lecturers could adopt more convenient learning tools that can be implemented effectively by pre-service teachers in Microteaching and creating a comfortable environment to ensure pre-service teachers will have high self-efficacy in integrating technology.
