The effectiveness of using games in teaching vocabulary in 6th grade of SD Negeri tugu jebres 120 surakarta

This final project was written based on the job training done by the writer in SD Negeri Tugu Jebres 120 Surakarta. This final project discusses about using games in teaching vocabularies to Sixth grade students in this school. It describes the application of games in the process of teaching vocabulary and finds out the effectiveness and fun of using games in teaching vocabulary. The class activities consist of four steps based on the lesson plan that was prepared before. They are: warming up to introduce the new material so that the students interested in it and to give the chance for the students to express their opinion, presentation in which the writer explained the material using pictures related to the material, production that was done by applying some vocabulary games to measure the students’ understanding about the material, also the writer improved the students’ English skill (speaking, writing, listening, reading), and assessment that was done by giving evaluation to the students. The writer found out that using games in teaching vocabularies is effective and fun for several reasons. They are: games can keep the students’ concentration in learning something, games excite the students’ interest in learning the material, games can increase the students’ motivation in learning the material, games make the students easier in memorizing the material, games can help the teacher measure the students’ understanding in learning the material, games give the students opportunity to apply the material they have learned and games can be applied to give practice for the students in all the skills. The suggestion is dedicated to the sixth grade students of SD Negeri Tugu Jebres 120 Surakarta, the English teacher of SD Negeri Tugu Jebres 120 Surakarta, SD Negeri Tugu Jebres 120 Surakarta and the English Diploma students of Letters and Fine Art Faculty.
