The Representation of The Concept of Post-nationalism on BLM Campaign Posts with The Hashtag #blacklivesmatterlosangeles on Instagram

The aim of this research is to understand how the BLM campaign posts with the hashtag #blacklivesmatterlosangeles on Instagram represent the concept of Post-nationalism. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach in collecting and analyzing the data. The primary data for this research are in the form of selected posts which were selected through a sampling technique of purposive sampling. The findings of the observation on the data are discussed using Barthes’ Semiotic Theory to understand how the hashtag #blacklivesmatterlosangeles covers various discrimination issues and BLM campaign posts with the hashtag on Instagram represents the concept of Post-nationalism. The results of this research show that the hashtag #blacklivesmatterlosangeles has become a forum for voicing various issues of discrimination related to the case of police brutality and the other issues of racism. It also shows the representation of the concept of Post-nationalism that is represented through the six categorizations of issues which are formulated based on the values of Post-nationalism such as Collective Solidarity, Belief of Individual Uniqueness and Multiple Identities, Belief of Inclusivity, Elimination of Racism as Colonial Product, Elimination of National Border, and Questioning/Critics of the Nations and National Identities. These issues are the indication of the BLM campaign posts representation of the concept of Post-nationalism.
