This study aims to classify the translation techniques for economic terminologies found in The New Trading For A Living, identify the translation techniques used by the translator in translating the economic terminologies, and analyze the quality of the translation of economic terminologies in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability.
This study used the descriptive qualitative research method since the data were classified descriptively in the form of words and phrases. The data consisted of linguistic and translation data. The data on economic terminology was taken from the economic book both original and translated versions. Further, the translation techniques and translation quality of economic terminologies are gathered. The data were collected through content analysis, questionnaires, and focus group discussion. The sources were The New Trading For A Living book and informants who were validators, target readers, and raters in this study.
The research results show that there are eight translation techniques employed by the translator, namely: Established Equivalent, Pure Borrowing, Variant Borrowing, Literal Translation, Discursive Creation, Explicitation, Generalization, and Reduction. The accurate translation can be found in 166 data (83%), less accurate translation can be found in 7 data (3.5%), and inaccurate translation can be found in 27 data (13.5%). Followed by acceptable translation can be found in 96 data (48%), less acceptable translation can be found in 80 data (40%), and unacceptable translation can be found in 24 data (12%). Lastly, readable translation can be found in 145 data (72.5%), less readable translation can be found in 39 data (19.5%), and unreadable translation can be found in 16 data (8%). The overall final score of the translation quality respecting accuracy, acceptability, and readability is 2.55. Individually, they are 2.7, 2.36, and 2.6. The final score indicates that the translator does not successfully translate the economic terminologies in this book. The translation is categorized as less accurate, less acceptable, and less readable.
