This internship report is written based on the writer’s internship activities carried out at Anak Hebat Indonesia Publisher, Yogyakarta, for eight weeks from January 29th, 2024, until March 23rd, 2024. The writer was involved in translating and editing a classic novel titled Acres of Diamonds by Russell H. Conwell during the internship. This report presents a comprehensive overview of the internship activities, the challenges faced, the solutions implemented, and the invaluable experiences gained during the internship. Throughout the internship, the writer encountered various challenges, including adapting to different sentence structures, deciphering difficult terminologies, handling idioms and metaphors, and resolving technical issues that impeded the text-translating process. To address these challenges, the writer employed theories, several techniques, and strategies learned during studies and sought guidance from mentors at the publishing house. Seeking guidance and feedback from mentors at the publishing house proved invaluable in overcoming these challenges. Maintaining the original text’s integrity while ensuring readability, which required a nuanced understanding of both the source and target languages. Handling difficult terminologies, idiomatic and metaphoric expressions required extensive research and creative problem solving. This internship provided valuable insights into the workflow and standards of the publishing industry, particularly in translating and editing classic novels. The experience significantly has enriched the writer’s understanding of the professional demands and skills required in the language industry, which also equips the writer with practical expertise and enhances academic knowledge. By integrating academic learning with hands-on practice, this internship has substantially contributed to the writer’s professional development in the field of translation and editing.
