The current study focuses on (1) identifying the writing activities in the textbook ‘Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut’ for eleventh grade based on Brown and Abeywickrama’s writing performance categorization, and (2) examining the pattern of writing activities distribution in the textbook. Using a content analysis, this research investigates the writing activity instructions in the textbook. Data was collected with document analysis and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaäna’s (2014) interactive analysis. The findings reveal that the four writing performance categories —imitative, intensive, responsive, and extensive— are included in the textbook. Among the four categories, extensive writing holds the highest frequency (37.5%), proceeded to intensive (35%), responsive (22.5%), and imitative writing (5%). Next, the pattern of writing activities distribution varies. Most of the writing activities are in a non-sequential order. Future studies may look at how the ‘Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut’ textbook affects students’ writing skills, with a focus on how their abilities in various genres of writing.
