Taufiq, Berlianka Ramadini. 2024. Translating Mechanical and Electro Engineering Manual Books at Pro Translasi, Malang. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret.
This report is based on my experiences while conducting as a student intern at Pro
Translasi, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The internship was conducted offline from
February 5 to March 29, 2024. The purpose of this report is to describe and elaborate on
the activities, difficulties, and solutions that I experienced during my internship. Overall,
I was given the precious opportunity to translate manual books as the main project. I was
responsible for translating two kinds of manual books that were concerned with various
aspects of engineering: mechanical engineering and electro engineering. The first project
of PT Xyz (pseudonym) was a manual book designed for the operation and maintenance
of heavy equipment. The second manual book was the PalmRAD 907 project which
contains the operation of the nuclear radiation monitor. The hurdle that I often
experienced throughout the time of my translation process was finding the equivalent
terminology from each context. The strategies I used to deal with these problems were to
apply the translation techniques that I had learned in my studies. These strategies
effectively enabled me to create a translation that is accurate, acceptable, and easily
understood by the target readers. Other than that, the CAT Tools, monolingual and
bilingual dictionaries, parallel text, and translation machines were some of the tools that
I also worked with in order to discover solutions to each of the issues that came up.
Therefore, apart from the fulfillment of graduation requirements, this report also acts as
a track record of my skill progress since enrolling in the English Diploma Program and
conducting internship activity in a company that is relevant to my competence, Pro
Translasi.
