Syifa Pandan Iswara. 2024. Translating a Legal Journal Article at Jogja Translator. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret.
This internship report is written based on the KMM (Kuliah Magang Mahasiswa) that I
conducted at Jogja Translator located at Jl. Prawirotaman 2 No.829, Brontokusuman,
Kec. Mergangsan, Yogyakarta City, Yogyakarta Special Region 55153. This internship
was carried out from January 29 to March 29, 2024. This internship aims to fulfill the
requirements for graduation in English Diploma, get real work experience in the field
of translation, develop soft skills and hard skills, and provide mutual benefits for English
Diploma, agency, and students. When I translated, I discussed first to ensure the division
of tasks between members. I also got an article about legal documents to translate for
my internship report. When translating, I found difficulty because there were some legal
terms that I did not know. I solved this problem by doing a research using Google, KBBI
VI Daring, Grammarly, and ProZ.com to make me easier to understand the meaning of
the terms when translating. Through this internship, I learned how to translate legal texts
properly. This involved becoming more careful when translating legal terms, paying
close attention to every word, and understanding the appropriate style of language to
use. The language style used in legal texts is usually more specific, complex, and usually
words or terms that are usually used in legal text. Learning parallel texts is important to
understand the legal style.
