Alif Sulaiman Tazaka, 2024. Translating a Journal Article on Legal Issues about Environmental Damage and Global Warming at Jogja Translator. English Diploma Program, Vocational School, Universitas Sebelas Maret.

This internship report was based on the internship activity at Jogja Translator, which began on February 29 and ended on March 29, 2024. The main activity that I did was translating a journal article about legal issues entitled "Kerusakan Lingkungan dan Pemanasan Global adalah Isu Hukum Perburuhan: Sebuah Refleksi". To complete the translation task that I did was started with preparation, translation, and evaluation. In the preparation process, I needed to know about the document that I would be translating and why it is called a journal article. This involved understanding the meaning, characteristics, and structure of a journal article. I also prepared several tools including a laptop, and several online dictionaries to help me translate the journal article. In the translation process, I used the translation method by Nida and Taber (1982) as cited in Ma’mur, I. (2021)., which includes analyzing, transferring, and restructuring. In the analysis stage, I figured out the meaning in the source text by reading the text and identified the difficult words or terms. In the transferring stage, I translated the text by looking for the equivalence in the target language. I also used Molina & Albir's (2002) established equivalent, literal, and borrowing techniques. In the restructuring stage, I edited and proofread my sentences with the guidance of my internship supervisor in the industry. The evaluation process consisted of discussing the problems and solutions that I faced during my internship at Jogja Translator and the feedback from the agency. During my internship, I faced problems in the internship about translation of difficult terms and miscommunications. I solved these problems by looking for reliable sources such as journal articles and government websites regarding translation problems and discussing miscommunication problems in a small meeting. By doing the translation activity, I learned how to write an abbreviation in the legal context. I just found out how important the restructuring process and a glossary is for translators. Through the internship program known as KMM, I gained real knowledge and work experience.
