This internship
report was written based on the internship program at Jogja Translator, which
began on January 29 and ended on April 29, 2024. This report explains the
internship activities at Jogja Translator, which is to gain practical
experience in translation, especially in translating a legal article given by
JT, Konsep Mengikuti Aliran Dana Dalam Tindak Pidana Pencucian Uang
Di Indonesia, as my main activity. In translating this article, I had
to understand the source text’s meaning, context, and cultural nuances. I
also faced some challenges in translating metaphor, difficult terms, and abbreviations in a legal
context. This complexity is evident in translating a legal article, where
accuracy is crucial. To produce a good translation, I applied Nida and Taber’s
model (in Mujiyanto, Y., 2013), which involves three phases: analysis,
transfer, and restructuring. Meanwhile, to help me implement the translation
process, I used some tools, such as online dictionaries, Google, SmartCat, and a glossary of legal terms given by JT. I also
used several translation techniques in the transfer stage to ensure that the
message of the source language was delivered to the target language, such as,
established equivalent and pure borrowing by Molina and Albir (in Nurlaila, N.,
2017). Also,
this report shows the importance of this internship in improving my skills and
knowledge in translation. This internship program has enhanced my understanding
of translation complexities and the importance of cultural and contextual
accuracy. This experience has taught me to be careful in translating a legal
text, so that I can produce a good translation that is accurate, acceptable,
and readable in the target language.
