This internship report was written based on the
internship program at Anak Hebat Indonesia Publisher, which began
on January 29th to March 23rd, 2024. This report
highlights how important the internship program was in improving my knowledge
and practical abilities in the translation industry. Besides, this report
contains the internship activities at Anak Hebat Indonesia Publisher, which was
translating a non-fiction book A Short History
of the World by H. G. Wells. I encountered numerous challenges in
translating this book, including unfamiliar culture and religious practices. To
overcome these obstacles, I relied on various tools and resources, including
dictionaries, Smartcat, DeepL, Sederet Kamus, Wikipedia, and book references,
such as Sapiens, Sejarah Dunia Lengkap,
and Sejarah Ringkas Dunia Kuno 4 Benua.
These resources proved to be quite helpful in guaranteeing precise translations
while preserving the subtle cultural differences found in the source text. I
employed several translation strategies by Molina & Albir (2002), to
address the translation issues, including omissions, additions, established
equivalent, generalization, and description. I improved my translation talents
and abilities significantly with the help of this internship report.
Additionally, the chance to intern in publishing gave me a glimpse into the
career I want to pursue. Based on my experience, this publishing internship was
suitable for students enrolled in the English Diploma Program at Vocational
School, Universitas Sebelas Maret of Surakarta who want to pursue writing and
publishing. The activities carried out in this Anak Hebat Indonesia Publisher
are closely related to the skills that must be possessed by students who
graduate from English Diploma Program.
