Pondoh bark (Salacca zalacca (Gaert.) Voss) from around Merapi mount is superior fruit in Indonesia which needs supporting research in its conducting system development, especially often appearance of pest explosion which is white grub. Predicted white grub pest consisting of some species or sub-spesies from family Melolonthidae (ordo : Coleoptera). The aims of research was to known the variety and the distribution pattern of white grub (Melolonthidae : Coleoptera) at pondoh bark agroecosystem in Merapi mountain slope. This research was held at pondoh bark agroecosystem in Merapi mountain slope (Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta and Magelang Regency, Central Jawa) in July-August 2007 (dry season). Sample was taken by using stratified random sampling method, on four stations. Every station was taken five sampling point, such as square (1x1) m2. Identification of spesimen based on its morphological character, while distribution analysis using canonical variation analysis. The result of research shows that there is one variety of white grub found at pondoh bark agroecosystem in Merapi mountain slope in dry season which is Holotrichia javana. The distribution pattern of white grub at every station is different each other. The clump distribution pattern happens each places with height of 484, 545 and 751 metre above sea level (m asl). The regular distribution pattern happens on height of 620 m asl. Keywords: White grub, distribution pattern, pondoh bark, Merapi mount
