TRANSLATING CAPTIONS FROM INDONESIAN INTO ENGLISH FOR METTA NEWS' INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT

This report was written based on the internship program at Metta Solo FM conducted from January 29 to March 25, 2024. The internship was carried out to: 1) complete the graduation requirements and obtain Ahli Madya degree, 2) get more work experience in the industry, 3) practice the translation skills gained from the campus, and 4) implement communication ethics in the workplace during the internship. This report mainly discusses the captions translation from Indonesian into English for Metta Solo FM’s news program, Metta News, which is regularly published on its Instagram account (@mettanews.id). Translating cultural terms in the captions from Indonesian into English was the main problem I encountered. To solve the problem, I applied two strategies: 1) borrowing the terms in the target language, and 2) searching for parallel texts on the Internet to find out the source language’s equivalence in the target language. Apart from that, I also did some other activities at Metta Solo FM, namely writing broadcasting/advertising scripts, transcribing interview, making resumes and questions, making lists of info and news on a specific date, collecting showbiz and viral news, taking part in Metta Solo FM’s Imlek Run 5K 2024, and participating in the Live Report during Ramadan
