This research is designed to (1) find out the types
of expressive speech acts that are used by the antagonist and protagonist in
the "The Lion King" movie, (2) describe the different use of
expressive speech acts by protagonist and antagonist characters in the movie,
(3) explain the distribution of expressive speech acts that are used in"
The Lion King" movie from orientation, complication, evaluation, and
resolution.
This
research is categorized as descriptive qualitative research since the data will
be analyzed descriptively. This research used pragmatics and socio-pragmatics
approaches. The theories that apply in this research were found by Austin
(1975) and Searle (1976). According to the research findings, 73 data were
found in this movie. The protagonist character produces 44 data of expressive
speech acts, while the antagonist character produces 38 data of expressive
speech acts. By analyzing the orientation, complication, evaluation, and
resolution stage in this movie, the expressive speech act types of praising,
lamenting, and blaming are used the most. In contrast, the antagonist character
uses blaming the most.
