This study aims to investigate three Indonesian pre-service teachers’ experiences of a short-term study abroad program in the Czech Republic. The main goal is to reflect on narratives expressed by the participants about intercultural learning, second language learning, and professional identity development. Several methods to gather the data were used including interviews, weekly diaries, and narrative frames at various periods in time; before, during, and after the study abroad programme. Thematic analysis is used in this study to look at and compare the various data kinds, systematically group them into themes, and provide interpretations. The results of the study demonstrated that pre-service teachers' experiences of the study abroad program's impact on their language skills, intercultural awareness, and self-awareness about the development of their professional identities. The pre-service teachers believed that second-language and cross-cultural learning centres on active engagement in the target language community. In addition, a new educational environment encouraged them to think critically as students and future educators, affecting their professional identity development. This study implies further work to be done in terms of pre-departure orientation and preparation, not only for the main participants themselves but also for the faculty
