EFEK TERATOGENIK EKSTRAK BUAH OYONG (Luffa acutangula (L.) Roxb.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN DAN PERKEMBANGAN FETUS MENCIT (Mus musculus L.)

Rigged
gourd
(Luffa acutangula
(l.)
Roxb.)
contains
of
antiviral
protein
LA.1
and
LA.2,
and
ribosome
inactivating
protein
luffaculin
that
exhibit
cytotoxic
activity,
beside
alkaloid,
saponin,
flavanoid,
cucurbitacin,
and
luffein.
They
have
teratogenic
effects.
The
objectives
of
the
research
were
to
find
out
the
effects
of
giving
rigged
gourd
fruit
extract
orally
on
growth
and
development
of
fetuses
and
to
find
out
the
safely
dosage.

The
Complete
Random
Design
(CRD)
with
4
treatment
groups
and
each
treatment
used
5
repetitions
were
used
in
this
study.
Rigged
gourd
extract
was
dissolved
in
aquadest
and
administrated
orally
on
6.16th
day
of
pregnancy.
The
groups
treated
with
rigged
gourd
extract
dosage:
0
mg/kg
BW
(control);
250
mg/kg
BW;
500
mg/kg
BW;
750
mg/kg
BW
and
1000
mg/kg
BW.
At
19th
day
of
pregnancy,
mouse
were
euthanased
with
dislocation
cervix
and
caesarian
sectioned
to
remove
the
fetuses
and
placentas
from
uterine.
Observation
include:
number
of
living
fetuses
and
intrauterine
mortality,
the
weight
and
length
of
body,
the
weight
and
length
of
placenta,
morphological
malformation,
and
skeletal
structure.
The
accumulated
quantitative
data
were
analyzed
by
ANOVA
(Analysis
of
Variance)
and
continued
by
DMRT
in
signification
level
5%.
Qualitative
data
were
analyzed
descriptively.
living

All
treatments
can
decrease
weight
and
length
of
the
body;
decrease
weight
and
length
of
placenta;
cause
morphological
malformation
such
as
dwarfisme,
flexion,
and

ossification
delayed
in
cranium,
os- parietal, os-interparietal, os-supraoccipital, os-basioccipital, os-nasal,
vertebrae lumbalis
and
limb
bones.
