Social media platforms like TikTok offer new
opportunities for students to enhance their
English vocabulary. This study aims to explore
and describe students’ experience of using TikTok
to acquiring new vocabulary. The participants in this study were junior high and high school
students who actively
used TikTok to learn English.
A total of 35 students
participated by filling out questionnaires, and several were interviewed. The
writer employed a purposive sampling technique to select participants. This
research used a qualitative case study method, collecting data through
questionnaires, interviews, and vocabulary tests. The results indicate the
students have a generally positive experience of using TikTok for vocabulary learning. They found it enjoyable, easy to access, and engaging,
which motivated them to learn more. TikTok also helps students discover
new vocabulary informally, but there are challenges such as difficulty in understanding certain
accents and occasional technical issues like app lagging. Despite these
challenges, TikTok was found to be a valuable supplementary tool for vocabulary
learning, contributing to students’ overall language development.
