The present study intend to identify the type of games, between adventure games and action games, that give better results for Indonesian students’ vocabulary mastery. To achieve this, the research compares two distinct categories of games: adventure games and action games, to determine which type is more effective in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among Indonesian students. The sample included 54 eleventh-grade students from two classes at a vocational high school in Surakarta. A questionnaire was utilized to identify the types of games that students typically play, specifically contrasting action and adventure games. The students were then divided into two groups based on their preferred game type. Following this categorization, a vocabulary test was administered to assess their vocabulary proficiency. The researcher applied the independent t-test formula to analyze the hypothesis, investigating whether a significant difference exists in vocabulary mastery between the two game types. The results indicated a significant difference in the mean scores for action games compared to adventure games, showing that students who engage with action games achieve notably higher vocabulary scores than those who prefer adventure games. Therefore, it can be concluded that action games have a more significant impact on students' vocabulary mastery than adventure games.
