This present study scrutinizes the teachers’ use of multimodal
teaching resources in online language tutoring courses. This study aims to
analyze the semiotic mode used by the English tutor in his video learning in
the Ruang Guru platform to convey meaning. The modes which were analyzed using
the theory from Kress and Leeuwen are limited to visual, linguistics, and
aural. Those modes were employed together in a video lesson to convey the
message. The data are in the form of screenshots images taken from the chosen
learning video available in the Ruang Guru Platform. In addition, the
researcher used semi-structured interviews to explore the perception of the
English tutors regarding with the multimodal resources used in video lesson.
Besides, the data were needed to gain a better understanding of the English
tutors’ experiences producing online teaching materials and how their expertise
was brought into the process. Furthermore, the researcher used qualitative
research as the results are in the form of descriptive text, where numerical
data is not needed.
